The ancient city, flood­ed in 1959 as a result of the con­struc­tion of a hydro­elec­tric pow­er sta­tion. Shichen, or “Lion City”, was found­ed in 670. Five city gates with tow­ers, six stone streets — every­thing was under water. The Lion City is about 62 foot­ball fields in size. Sur­pris­ing­ly, even after half a cen­tu­ry, the city is per­fect­ly pre­served, includ­ing wood­en beams and steps, as if this “Chi­nese Atlantis” is inhab­it­ed and some­one care­ful­ly main­tains order there. The mys­te­ri­ous under­wa­ter king­dom is very pop­u­lar with divers.
