Description:
Ten shipwreck-shaped chalets line the sand dunes of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast. Inspired by the wrecks that litter Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, Shipwreck Lodge is located in one of the country’s most stunning, yet least visited, national parks. Namibia’s Skeleton Coast might not seem like the most ideal place to stay. Portuguese sailors called the coast “the Gates of Hell.” The indigenous people of Namibia’s interior called it “the Land God Made in Anger.” Then there are the skeletons that give the region its name, originally derived from the bones of whales and seals left on the shores by the whaling industry, and later associated with the skeletons of more than 1,000 sunken ships that litter the region, victims of coastal rocks, fog, and heavy surf.
