Tan­ners’ Bridge is an incred­i­ble exam­ple of Ottoman archi­tec­ture and the old­est bridge in Tirana. It was built towards the end of the 1700s and is a unique reminder of how the city looked 300 years ago. Dur­ing this time, it was part of Saint George Road, which extend­ed from Tirana to the east­ern high­lands, allow­ing farm­ers and their live­stock to trav­el to the butch­ery and leather work­ing dis­trict near the Tan­ners’ Mosque with ease. The bridge has been through a lot over its life­time; when Lanë Riv­er was moved in 1930s it fell into dis­re­pair, and wasn’t until the 1990s that it was restored for pedes­tri­an use. Nowa­days, you can admire its beau­ty from both sides; on one side stands the Tan­ners’ Mosque, designed by mem­bers of the guild in 17th cen­tu­ry, while on anoth­er there are views of Tirana’s ancient archi­tec­ture.
