Locat­ed 3.5 km from Siab Bazaar and approx­i­mate­ly 5 km from the city cen­ter. The muse­um tells what hap­pened here (in Uzbek and Eng­lish). What remains of the obser­va­to­ry itself is a hill, inside of which there is a 30-meter arc of a sec­tar­i­an built in 1420, which was used to mea­sure the height of celes­tial bod­ies above the hori­zon. Using this device, Ulug­bek and his asso­ciates com­piled a detailed map of the star­ry sky. In 2012, the obser­va­to­ry was thor­ough­ly restored and the build­ing took on its nat­ur­al appear­ance. Inside the obser­va­to­ry there is a muse­um with many exhibits and mod­els of build­ings of ancient Samarkand.
