The defend­ers of the Arc­tic held the defense of this line for sev­er­al months, thanks to which the offen­sive oper­a­tion of the Ger­man army on Mur­man­sk failed. The bat­tles were so bloody that for a long time the val­ley was known as the “Val­ley of Death”; now more than 7 thou­sand peo­ple are buried here, and many have not yet been found. At the end of the 1950s, the open­ing of the memo­r­i­al com­plex took place, and the val­ley received its mod­ern name. Thou­sands of peo­ple come to the “Val­ley of Glo­ry” every year to hon­or the mem­o­ry of the defend­ers of the Arc­tic who died in bat­tle.
