The initiator of the construction of the funicular was Khrushchev, who planned to make the capital of Primorye a “Russian San Francisco”. Nikita Sergeevich put forward this idea back in 1954. However, in 1959, returning from a trip to the United States, he arrived in Vladivostok and discovered that construction had not begun. That’s when the work began to boil. The Vladivostok funicular was launched in May 1962 and is still in operation today. This is the only funicular in Russia that serves as public transport. The length of the tracks is 183 m, the height difference is 66.5 m.
