This site, which was the cap­i­tal of Lycia, illus­trates the blend­ing of Lycian tra­di­tions and Hel­lenic influ­ence, espe­cial­ly in its funer­ary art. The epi­graph­ic inscrip­tions are cru­cial for our under­stand­ing of the his­to­ry of the Lycian peo­ple and their Indo-Euro­­pean lan­guage.
