Построен в 1894–97 гг. по проекту архитектора Мейшнера взамен снесённого костёла, ставшего слишком маленьким для католической общины Смоленска. Католиков в Смоленске, долгое время бывшем в составе Польши, до сталинских переселений всегда было достаточно, и католические церкви тут существовали чуть не с XII века. Построен костёл был в совершенно стандартном псевдоготическом стиле, практически все католические церкви этого времени в России построены именно так. Красно-кирпичная церковь с порталом и двумя башнями не действует и находится в плохом состоянии.
