Begun in 1238 by Emir Muhammad I Ibn al-Ahmar, founder of the last Muslim dynasty to rule on the Iberian peninsula, the Alhambra in Granada is perhaps the finest example of Spanish Moorish architecture, especially its intricately decorated Nasrid Palaces and Generalife residence and gardens.
