The road, made of large stone slabs, stretches for several kilometers across several districts of the republic, but a significant part of it was flooded during the creation of the Sayano-Shushenskoye reservoir. According to legend, the troops of Genghis Khan passed along the road, but the exact purpose and time of construction are unknown. A section of the road has been preserved in the vicinity of the village of Shanchy (Chaa-Khol district). Although the stonework is hundreds of years old, it still looks monumental. There are several other historical attractions in the vicinity, including petroglyphs on the rocks and Buddhist shrines.
