Описание:
The former Upper Trading Rows. Built in 1889–1894 according to the design of Alexander Pomerantsev and engineer Vladimir Shukhov. Interesting not only for their appearance, but also, like all Shukhov’s projects, for their rather unusual interior design: for example, a vaulted glass ceiling. The building is huge, with its façade length alone being 242 m. After numerous resales, the store returned to its original name, GUM, but the G now stands for “Main”. Dozens of boutiques, an elite grocery store, and quite a few cafes, including a couple of inexpensive canteens, are located on three floors and three lines running along the entire building. In the center of the passage is a fountain, which is now unlikely to surprise anyone, but at the beginning of the 20th century, and even in Soviet times, it was a curiosity, one of the traditional meeting places: “at GUM by the fountain.” To entertain visitors and tourists, GUM has opened a historical toilet, where you can visit a spacious restroom decorated with gold, granite and marble.
