Designed by David Barber and Bill Burgess, The Julie Penrose fountain at America The Beautiful park is an open loop of silvery-colored steel panels outfitted with 366 water jets that line the interior contours of the form. It sits on a hidden turntable so that it’s able to rotate every fifteen minutes. The fountain represents the life-giving movement of water between the atmosphere and the earth. Completed in 2007, the piece weighs 24 tons and is the size of a four-storey building.
