The ruins of the Sauri fortress have been known for a long time. The remains of the fortress wall were a wide stone-earth rampart more than 30 m long, blocking the narrow isthmus of a long remnant formed by a small canyon and a deep dry channel. At the base of the canyon is the freshwater lake Karakup, fed by springs from the aquifer of marly clays. The depth of the lake is about 5 m. A large population of marsh turtles lives here.
