Built in 1841, the Sem­per­op­er is a bit of a hodge­podge of styles – which only adds to its charms. There are Ear­ly Renais­sance, Baroque and even Corinthi­an style pil­lars typ­i­cal­ly seen in clas­si­cal Greece. The build­ing today is a recon­struc­tion of the orig­i­nal, which was bombed in the last few weeks of World War Two. It’s the home of the Sax­on State Opera Dres­den and the Säch­sis­che Staatskapelle Dres­den.
