The author of the project and the head of the construction of the radio tower is the great Russian engineer, architect, and scientist, academician Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov. The tower has been recognized as one of the most beautiful and outstanding feats of engineering in the world. The first project of the tower on Shabolovka was developed by V. G. Shukhov. The radio tower on Shabolovka was supposed to reach a height of 350 meters, which is 26 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower. At the same time, Shukhov’s calculations promised that, given its colossal size, the Moscow tower would be more than three times lighter than its Parisian predecessor. But there was a Civil War in Russia, there were not enough funds, so we had to curb our appetites. The total height of the tower is 148.3 meters. On March 19, 1922, radio broadcasts began from the tower’s unique antenna.
